The Maker’s Diet
is a book that gives a holistic approach to health and
wellness, based on body, mind and
spirit, but mostly focused on following a diet rich in
traditional whole foods. The author, Jordan Rubin, bases
his ideas on biblical precepts and scientific resources.
He discusses the world’s healthiest and longest-lived
peoples and what they ate, and the importance of the digestive
tract and hygiene in being healthy.
Some other suggestions he has:
- Do not use fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash or drink
fluoridated water. In his opinion, fluoride is extremely
poisonous,
especially the salt-based form used in toothpaste and
mouthwash. Editor’s Note: Two good natural brands
of toothpaste without fluoride are Weleda and Peelu,
available at www.ecoviva.com
- Do
not take large amounts of artificial vitamins and minerals
- Do
not swim in chlorinated pools, or drink or shower with
chlorinated water.
- Avoid conventional body care
and cleaning products made with harmful toxins. For natural
body care,
he recommends
Aubrey-Organics and Mychelle. Aubrey has both hair care
and skin care products, and Mychelle just skin care.
For natural cleaning, Rubin recommends Bi-O-Kleen and
Seventh
Generation.
- Avoid toxins in your home, such
as particle board, paint, carpet and decorative paraffin
candles.
- Wear natural fabrics.
His list of the Maker’s Top “Healing” Foods
include:
- Fish and Fish Oil
- Cultured Dairy Products, such
as Kefir and Yogurt
- Olive Oil
- Soups and Meat Stocks
- Healthy
Saturated Fats, such as Butter from grass-fed cows and
Coconut Oil
- Raw Honey
- Wild Animal Foods, including
Organ Meats
- High Omega-3 Eggs
- Cultured/Fermented
Vegetables and Beverages
- Green Vegetables
