Why Buy and Use Natural Products?

Nature has provided well for us, and we are finding that out more and more, whether it is concerning food, body care, cleaning or other products.  Often people who start buying natural and organic products begin with what they eat and drink - food and beverages.  After all, these are the most readily available and what we normally think of as the most important products to use in their natural state. In this article, we will discuss natural and organic food products, as well as why it matters if you use natural body care, cleaning or other products.

Natural and Organic Food Products

Some of us make an effort to buy organic foods, but often those organic foods are processed, packaged foods. While it is better that we eat organic pasta or organic pizza dinners than non-organic, if we eat food in its more natural state, such as eating whole grains instead of refined, white-flour products, and fresh, whole fruits and vegetables instead of things like fruit leather with organic sugar and organic corn puffs, our bodies will get more of the nutrients they need. Another example of how eating more naturally is better for us, is the fact that when cows graze exclusively on grass or other greens in the pasture, which is their natural diet, their meat and milk are high in Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) which can help reduce body fat and tumor growth, lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and support the immune system.  Eating natural and organic food is an important step to take in raising the level of our health. However, it is not the only one.

Body Care Products That We Put On Our Skin

The skin is a living, breathing tissue that covers and protects our body, but also absorbs things that come into contact with it. Just as prescription drugs can be delivered through our skin via a patch, lotions, soaps, shampoos, and other body care products are absorbed by our skin.  If we use shampoo made of petrochemicals and other chemical preservatives, we absorb that. If we use natural shampoo made of natural oils and herbs, we absorb those botanical ingredients instead. Which would you rather have in your body?

However, conventional cleaning products are often major contributors to the toxicity of your home.  They are the only household products that are regulated under the 1960 Federal Hazardous Substances Labeling Act. Found in body care, cosmetics, cleaning products such as laundry detergents and more

  • Some are carcinogenic, and others contain or release formaldehyde

  • Can lead to brain damage
  • Many petroleum distillates are carcinogenic


Found in laundry detergents, disinfectants, all-purpose cleaners and furniture polish.

  • Can cause swelling and hives
  • Internal consumption very toxic

Believe it or not, there are many non-toxic natural cleaners out on the market today that do as good a job or better than many of their more toxic counterparts.   You can reduce your exposure to the dangerous chemicals listed above by using these more natural cleaning products. You don’t have to change everything overnight. Try replacing just one of your cleaning products with a natural one next time you run out.

So, in conclusion, although it is very important to eat natural and organic food, and drink clean water, it is also very important to use natural body care and cleaning products, because these are products that we absorb through our skin and breathe from the air. We have so much exposure to toxins these days that any way we can reduce that toxic load can’t help but be healthy for our bodies, as well as for the earth.
